THE CHALLENGE OF URBANIZATION

Population Growth: By 2050, 68–80% of the world’s population will live in cities; Africa’s urban population will more than double. Climate Risk = ƒ(Vulnerability, Hazard, Exposure) 500 million of urban residents live in coastal areas; 90% of urban growth in developing countries is in hazard- prone, unplanned settlements. COVID-19 revealed cities’ weaknesses: poor air quality, fragile health systems, and inequality.
